Let me tell you what’s been going on…

Does anyone have any drugs?

Does anyone have any drugs?

Friday started by me going to the doctor for, among other things, pinkeye in one eye, a flu shot, a “talk’” about the antidepressants I’ve been on (yes, I will talk about that later) and how my doctor and I were going to (ha!) navigate my insurance company’s refusal to approve those, and a pap smear.  I ended up including getting blood drawn and an EKG.  So that was balls from the start.

Went to work, caught up from being gone for a day and a half, then went home.  Only a few hours after getting home, my mom and dad both called me; my grandma had a massive heart attack and was not expected to live through the night.  She was apparently out of it and my parents said to wait to come up to Iowa until they talked to me on Saturday.  My dad had said that my grandma didn’t even recognize him, and I didn’t want my last visit to her to be one where she didn’t recognize me.  This obviously sucked and I spent the evening alternating between crying and trying to complete the long-overdue upgrade to the latest version of WordPress.  Which was, like, the smartest thing I could have done in my emotional state, because I fucked it up beyond repair, hence this new, askew, fucked-up theme with no archives.  I’m working on figuring everything else out, including plug-ins and what-not.  I will hopefully fix that all today, but that’s best-case scenario.  Worst case-scenario…yeah, I don’t want to think about it.

So when my dad called me Saturday morning when I was still in bed, I was sure it was bad news, but it was not.  Miraculously, not only did my grandma make it through the night, she woke up lucid, so Chris and I decided to drive up on Sunday.  Saturday was slightly better than Friday: I went to kickball (two wins), the farmers’ market, and then my friend Kelly invited me to attend the class she and her boyfriend, Jared, were teaching at Kitchen Conservatory on sushi and beer.  Jared’s mom had registered for the couples class, but her friend who was going to go with her bailed and she needed a partner, a role I was glad to fill.  You can read about it all tomorrow in the Novice Foodie.

Sunday we woke up early and drove all the way to Iowa City to visit my grandma.  She recognized both Chris and I, but I could tell she was confused about other things; she asked me twice where I live now; as I helped her fill out her meal menu, she told me she wanted tea, but she couldn’t articulate a preference between hot tea and cold tea, and then two minutes later, she said she hated tea.  We stayed with her until she dozed off, then had lunch at a little diner with my uncle, then got in the car and drove all the way back.

So, yeah, WOE IS ME.  My blog, as you can see, is still needed teh helpz.  I called into work today, mainly because I’m physically and emotionally exhausted and I want to get as many things I can done as I can to catch up.  Grandma’s prognosis is basically up in the air, but the main thing for me was that I got to see her while she could still recognize me and have a relatively normal conversation with her.

However, thank you all my friends, IRL and from the intarwebz, who sent good karma, thoughts, and prayers my family’s way this weekend.   They were most appreciated, for sure.

Heavy week. Sending you good thoughts and virtual hugs. And a stiff drink at the nearest opportunity.

I am sure my husband’s offer to help you with the blog tech stuff still stands.
