Buck Up

logo-taglineBeing a former teacher, I know how much teachers give of their own lives to make sure their students’ needs are met.  Often, this giving is financial.  There are schools in our area where teachers have to buy all of their own supplies because their school can’t give them a budget and their students’ families cannot afford to buy even basics like crayons and paper or CHAIRS FOR THEIR CLASSROOM.  Seriously?  Not enough chairs for the amount of students in your class?  What is WRONG with this country?

This is why DonorsChoose.org is such an awesome organization.  Teachers can request supplies they need for their classrooms and individuals looking to contribute financially to our schools can log on and find a project that speaks to them.  You can donate any dollar amount to a project, and many are also sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, who will match your contribution. → continue reading

Quitter

strategic quittingFirst things first: happy 29th birthday to my husband Chris.  I could wax poetic and write something touching but he doesn’t roll like that in the public sphere of the interwebs, so I’ll keep those sweet nothings between him and me, mmmkay?

Second, I promised on Friday some big news today.  That prompted e-mail from my mother threatening that if she had to hear from my blog that I was pregnant there would be hell to pay.  But no, I’m not pregnant, as anyone who saw me swilling beer at various Holly Hills establishments this weekend is probably relieved to find out.  I did, however, as of 9:12 this morning, put in my notice at work.

Didja hear me?  I QUIT MY JOB, Y’ALL. → continue reading

Friday Fumblings

Jane LynchWow!  It turns out we’re ALL depressed.  Who knew?

In all seriousness, thank you so much for all the comments, tweets, e-mails, and overall good karma after my last post.  I’ve been drafting some form of it for months, and the positive feedback from all y’all made me feel really good about finally clicking “publish”.  Even better, you guys reaffirmed that we should all feel okay talking about our mental health issues, particularly in light of the recent health/insurance reform debate.  Let it be know we need desperately need improved coverage.  Big hugs and inappropriate French kisses all around.

Did we just have a moment? → continue reading

Congratulations! You’re depressed!

So yesterday I just dropped this antidepressant bomb here.  It’s something I’ve been saving a draft about for a long time, but never had the courage to publish.  Yup, I’m depressed. Officially. → continue reading

Let me tell you what’s been going on…

Does anyone have any drugs?

Does anyone have any drugs?

Friday started by me going to the doctor for, among other things, pinkeye in one eye, a flu shot, a “talk’” about the antidepressants I’ve been on (yes, I will talk about that later) and how my doctor and I were going to (ha!) navigate my insurance company’s refusal to approve those, and a pap smear.  I ended up including getting blood drawn and an EKG.  So that was balls from the start.  → continue reading

Soooo…

Among other shiteous things to happen this weekend, I completely fucked up my blog when trying to update WordPress.  Yes, I realize I’m an idiot.  Working to remedy the problem.  Hang in there, buddy.
